Best Family Friendly Hikes in North Snohomish County

Winter brings mild temperatures and rain in the PNW, but it also brings sunshine and some beautiful days! Winter hiking can be just as fun, if not more fun, than summer hiking but it does take some more planning and preparation.  Here are some great winter hikes in the Marysville Macaroni Kid area along with some tips on making your hike a fun and successful one! 

Centennial Trail - {Snohomish to Skagit County}

Address - Many different trailheads. Snohomish Trailhead, Pilchuck Trailhead, Machias Trailhead, 20th Street Trailhead (Lake Stevens), Hwy 92 Overpass Trailhead, Rhododendron Trailhead, Lake Cassidy Wetlands Park & Interpretive Center Trailhead.  For addresses and directions to each trailhead click here.

Parking - No special parking permit required. 

This 30 mile flat paved trail is designed for hiking, biking, skating, skateboarding/longboarding, and equestrian use. You can also find picnic areas, restrooms, and benches along the trail for your convenience.  

North Creek Park - {Mill Creek}

Address - 1011 183rd St. SE
Mill Creek, WA 98012

Parking - No special permit required

Come take a walk on the 3/4 mile boardwalk and experience the wetlands and nature in its finest form.  Be on the lookout for lots of birds and other wildlife.    in this park you can also find a playground, picnic areas, and restrooms.  Sounds like a great little adventure to break up your day.  

Big Gulch - {Mukilteo} 

Address - There are several access points, but the main entrance is just off 92nd Street in Mukilteo

Parking - No special permit required

This is a fun place to explore ravines, forests, and lots of wildlife and animals.  There are stairs at the beginning of the trail so this is not a good trail for strollers.  

Japanese Gulch -  {Mukilteo}

Address - Access from 76th Street Trailhead, Tails to Trails Dog Park, and 19th Street

Parking - No special permit required

144 acre urban forest with miles of trails for biking, hiking, dog walking, and trail running. The lower trail  is about 1/4  miles and connects to the Mt. Baker Avenue railroad crossing to access the Mukilteo Waterfront. It does however have a steep grade so maybe not the best for those little legs.  

Deering Wildflower Acres Park - {Marysville}

Address - 4708 79th Ave. NE
Marysville, WA 98270

Parking - No special permit required

This 30 acre park includes a 1.2 miles  trail network.  This is strictly for pedestrian walking ONLY. No biking allowed, and no pets allowed at this park.  The trail is dirt and mulch and they have a sani-can on site. 

Lowell Riverfront Trail - {Everett}

Address - Lowell-Snohomish River Road
Everett, WA 98201

Parking - Plenty of parking and no special pass required

This beautiful paved path is 1.75 miles  and not only has beautiful views, but some great wildlife to observe. 

Green Lantern Trail - {Everett}

Address - 1822 Silver Lake Rd
Everett, WA 98208

Parking -  Access the trail on the north end at 19th Ave SE and Silver Lake Road.
Access the trail on the south end at Hauge Homestead Park,1819 121st St SE.

Enjoy a scenic walk along the east side of Silver Lake, while watching the many kinds of  wildlife.  Most of the trail is a smooth sidewalk, while a small stretch just north of Hauge Homestead Park  includes a wooden path and gravel trail. They have benches, picnic areas, and access to the water.  

Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary Park - {Everett}

Address - 6900 Seaway Blvd.
Everett, WA 98204

Parking - No special permit required
