Is there much else Northwest than a ferry ride? For a perfect day trip, Whidbey Island is the best place to go from Everett. You can enjoy all that Whidbey Island has to offer—from delicious food to outdoor activities—within a short ferry ride.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Patty's Eggnest on Evergreen Way. This local favorite is now a household name thanks to their delicious egg scrambles. The fun begins after a ferry ride from Mukilteo. Our destination for the day was Fort Casey State Park. Make sure to get some sandwiches at Pickles Deli in Clinton before you go to the fort. The gooy special and the banh mi were our orders.
On Whidbey Island, there are numerous parks and trails that are ideal for a day of hiking or picnicking. Fort Casey State Park is one of the most well-known destinations. Here, you can look at the old fortifications and see the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We ate lunch in the car after exploring the fort because it was pretty windy.
Honey Bear in Coupeville is the ideal location for a sugar-filled getaway. This store is friendly to families and has a lot of toys and candy for kids.
The day ended with a ferry ride back to Mukilteo and six very tired kids. While you are on the island, make sure to check out Whidbey Island Macaroni Kid for additional suggestions for entertaining activities.
